With nearly five churches closing their doors for the last time every day, North America is rapidly becoming THE MOST IGNORED MISSION FIELD IN THE WORLD. From small villages in the northeast to small farm towns scattered across the central plains to isolated logging communities out west…North America is the only continent where Christianity is not growing.
The Great Commission was to “Go into all the world”, but rural America has fallen through the cracks. Without a doubt, rural America has become “the forgotten of our day”.
“How will they hear?” asks the apostle Paul. “Who will go?” echoes the prophet Isaiah.
In 1948, Village Missions responded to the call by saying, “We will.” “We will go and represent Jesus in these unremembered places!” The mission was simple: “PREACH THE WORD AND LOVE THE PEOPLE.” Over 60 years later, their motto has stayed the same. With vast multitudes of Americans who will live and die in North America without ever hearing the gospel, Village Missions continues to invest into rural areas where there is no gospel-preaching church.
There are many different reasons why these rural churches are closing their doors. They cannot afford to support a full-time pastor. They are unable to find a pastor who is willing to serve in such an unnoticed and un-prestigious location. They cannot provide the spiritual guidance and emotional support needed to keep a pastor long term.
Village Missions is a non-denominational ministry that has answered the call by providing the financial support that these churches need. Village Missions relieves the churches of the burden of locating a pastor by doing all the leg work in finding and placing the pastors. They are also diligent in providing regional leadership to help the pastors and their local church boards achieve long-term ministry.
ON THE WORST DAY OF A PERSON’S LIFE, HE OR SHE OFTEN TURNS TO THE CHURCH FOR HELP. WE MUST BE SURE THE CHURCH IS THERE FOR THEM ON THAT DAY…AND ALL THE DAYS TO FOLLOW.
Every rural community needs a church family and a place to worship. Even the smallest church building reminds folks that God is still there in their midst. A local pastor and church members can provide an authentic voice of hope and love for those without Christ
That’s the heart of Village Missions: to bring the hope of salvation to places where there might otherwise be no gospel message. To locate a Village Mission’s church or to learn more about how you can be part of this rural ministry, log onto www.village-missions.org or call 503.623.4107
“Who will go where others won’t go
Serve where others won’t serve,
Be Jesus to the forgotten of our day?
Who will fight to the keep the churches open,
Preach the Word of Hope
And Love the People
Of these Unremembered Places?”
